Fakhrul reiterates demand for fresh, participatory polls


Dhaka, July 08: Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has urged the government to arrange fresh general elections immediately under an election-time neutral government.He made the remark at a press conference at BNP central office in the capital’s Nayapaltan area on Monday.

Reiterating the demand for fresh and participatory elections, Fakhrul also demanded immediate cancellation of the 11th parliamentary elections results.

“As the current parliament has not been formed with people’s mandate, as they have forcedly hijacked the results of the elections abusing various state institutions, there is no accountability in these institutions to the people,” he alleged.

He also claimed that there prevail anarchy and unrest in the every sector of the state. Even judiciary sector has been affected by this.

The BNP senior leader also alleged that Awami League (AL) has destroyed all the democratic institutions one by one.

“Destroying all the democratic institutions and politics of the opposition parties, they (Awami League) have finalised all the arrangement to permanently exile democracy from the country,” Fakhrul added.

BNP standing committee member Begum Selima Rahman, Vice Chairman Adv Khandakar Mahbub Hossain, Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi and Barrister Mahbub Uddin Khokon, International Affairs Secretary Adv Masud Ahmed Talukder and Law Secretary Barrister Kaiser Kamal, among others, were present at the press conference.
