He breathed his last while undergoing treatment at Ad-din Hospital in Dhaka around 8am on Saturday.
The hospital’s Director General Dr Nahid Yasmin confirmed his death to media.
He was suffering from various old-aged complications including anaemia.
Earlier, Barrister Rafiq-ul Haque was on life support at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Ad-Din Hospital after deteriorating his condition as critical.
He was taken to the ICU around 12pm on Tuesday (October 20).
The veteran lawyer had served as the attorney general from April 7, 1990 to December 17 of the same year.
During the caretaker government’s regime in 2007-08, he had lent legal support to top ranking political leaders.
Born to a Muslim family in 1935, Rafique began his career as a lawyer in Kolkata (the then Calcutta) High Court in India in 1960.
