ETV’s Sekandar on 2-day remand over sexual harassment charges

Dhaka, Feb 04: A Dhaka court on Monday granted a fresh two-day police remand for MM Sekandar Miah, (34) Chief Reporter of Ekushey Television (ETV) on allegations of sexually harassing a female co-worker.Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Sattyabrata Sikder passed the order after police produced him before the court seeking five-day remand.

Earlier, a team of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested Sekander early hours on Monday (2.30 am) and later handed over to Hatirjheel Police Station.

The victim lodged a case under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act, said Officer-in-charge (OC) Abu Mohammad Fazlul Karim.

According to the case statement, Sekandar allegedly had been sexually harassing her ever since she joined the channel. She was made to stay at the office till late into the night without any reason.

Sekandar, then used to offer to drop her home only for the intent of harassing her in his car, she claimed.

On January 27 Sekandar harassed her sexually after calling her to a fast-food shop. He also gave death threat to her not to disclose the matter to someone.

Later on January 28, she submitted a written complaint against him to Managing Director of ETV. After knowing the matter, Sekandar made a vulgar remark to her after calling her into a room.

She also alleged that a number of other employees of ETV helped Sekandar harassing her.

Mwanwhile, in a Facebook status the victim also expressed his experience by giving post with #me too.
