Dhaka, May 14: HM Ershad and Ruhul Amin Hawlader on Saturday elected as chairman and secretary general respectively of Jatiya Party (JP) unopposed.
Jatiya Party Presidium Member Advocate Sheikh Sirajul Islam proposed their names and other councillors supported it unanimously raising their hands at the 8th national council held at the Institution of Engineers auditorium in the city.
Earlier, H.M Ershad inaugurated the council on Saturday morning. Awami League and all component parties of the ruling grand alliance were invited to the council. Besides, heads of diplomatic missions in Dhaka were invited.
The Jatiya Party will take part in all future polls, including the parliamentary elections, under the leadership of the committee to be formed through this council.
Among others, water resources minister Anisul Islam Mahmud, former secretary general Ziauddin Ahmed Bablu, opposition chief whip in parliament Tajul Islam Chowdhury, state minister for LGRD Mashiur Rahman Ranga, state minister for labour Mujibul Haque Chunnu, presidium members Professor Delwar Hossain, Kazi Firoz Rashid, Fakhrul Islam, MA Qasem, Professor Masuda M Rashid Chowdhury, Syed Abu Hossain Babla, Salma Islam, Mir Abdus Sabur, Sunil Shuvo Roy and general secretary of Mohila Party Anonya Hossain Mousumi also attended the council.
The Jatiya Party was formed 30 years ago on January 1 in 1986.
