‘Election period govt will play as supportive govt’: Quader


Dhaka, July 1: Awami League (AL) General Secretary Obaidul Quader yesterday said the election period government would play as supportive government during the election time.

“The next general election will be held like other democratic countries. Election period government would perform its duty as supportive government,” he told a press conference after a secretary-level meeting of AL, reports BSS.

The meeting was held at party President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s political office in Dhanmondi here.

Joint General Secretaries Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif, Dr Dipu Moni, Advocate Jahangir Kabir Nanak and Abdur Rahman, Organizing Secretaries Ahmed Hossain, BM Mozammel Haque, AFM Bahauddin Nasim and Mejbahuddin Siraj, Publicity and Publication Secretary Dr Hasan Mahmud, Relief and Social Welfare Secretary Sujit Roy Nandi, Cultural Secretary Ashim Kumar Ukil, Information and Research Secretary Advocate Afzal Hossain and Agriculture and Cooperative Secretary Faridunnahar Laily, among others, were present.

Quader, also the Road Transport and Bridges Minister, said the next general election will be held under the present election commission as per constitution and the government will perform its routine works. But they would not take any important decision, he added.

He said BNP had a record of money laundering in foreign countries and the FBI, an intelligence agency of the US, has already gave evidence about the money laundering of BNP leader Tareque Rahman.

“We are yet to receive any allegation about money laundering of AL leaders…if it is proved against any AL leader, he or she would be brought into justice,” Quader said.

About the AL sub-committees, the AL general secretary said, the name of chairmen and member secretaries of 17 sub-committees have finalized.
