Dhaka, May 16: For the first time, the Bangladesh Railway is going to sell advanced tickets for Eid-ul-Fitr from different counters and stations in the capital. Besides, at least 16 special trains will run alongside the existing 33 intercity trains to ease travel pressure during the Eid holiday.Railway minister Nurul Islam Sujan made the disclosure while briefing the media on advanced Eid ticket sale at Rail Bhaban on Wednesday. He said the sale of advance tickets would commence 10 days ahead of Eid—from May 22 to May 26.
Tickets of to all trains to the country’s western destinations will be sold from the Kamalapur railway station, while tickets to Chattogram and Noakhali will be sold from the Airport railway station.
Passengers going to Mymensingh and Jamalpur will have to purchase their tickets from the Tejgaon station, while tickets for Netrakona-bound Mohonganj and Haor Express passengers will be sold from Banani station. And Kishoreganj and Sylhet train tickets will be sold from the Old Rail Bhaban in Dhaka’s Fulbaria area.
A passenger would be able to buy a maximum of four tickets and must show his/her NID card. The move has been taken to prevent blackmarketing of tickets, said the minister.
The tickets will be sold on May 22, 23, 24, 25, 26 for May 31, June 1, 2, 3, 4, respectively, from those counters. Besides, for return journeys, tickets for June 7, 8, 9, 10, 11 will be available on May 29, 30, 31 and June 1, 2 respectively.
Tickets will be sold from 9am to 4pm each day. Fifty per cent of tickets of the intercity trains will be sold through online apps.
For the easy movement of passengers train during Eid, container and oil tanker trains will not be run right from three days ahead of Eid.
