Death of judge’s wife, arrest warrant against two doctors

Chittagong, June 9: The court issued arrest warrant against two physicians following a case filed against them in Chittagong for the death of a judge’s wife due to their alleged wrong treatment.

The case was filed by Saima Sikder’s mother Salma Begum with the court of 6th Metropolitan Magistrate Harun-ur-Rashid in Chittagong.

Following the filing of the case, the court issued arrest warrant against two doctors.

The doctors are gaynaecologist Dr Kajol Rekha Roy and registrar of cardiac surgery at Chittagong Medical College Hospital Dr Debashish Talukder.

Besides, arrest warrant was issued against Abdul Jabbar, managing director of Patient Care Hospital in Chittagong city.

The complainant of the case Salma Begum mentioned that her daughter had died during delivery of child due to the negligence of the accused doctors. Saima Sikder was the wife of assistant district judge of Noakhali Morshedul Alam. She was a 4th year student of the Department of Social Science at Chittagong Govt Women’s College.

Salma Begum alleged that Saima’s delivery related treatment was going on under the supervision of Dr Kajol Rekha Roy. Her scheduled delivery date was June 20. “As her delivery pain began at night on June 2, we phoned Dr Kajol Rekha Roy. She advised us to shift Saima to Patient Care Hospital hurriedly,” Saima’s mother said.

At about 6:30am on June 3, Saima was admitted to Patient Care Hospital at ‘Mayabini Building’ situated at Fazlul Quader Chowdhury Road in the port city. The doctor advised Saima about  her Caesarian section at 1:00am after her admission to Patient Care Hospital. Saima gave birth to a baby boy at the operation theatre at 2:00am. She was shifted to the Metropolitan Hospital at about 6:45am on June 3. But the doctors at Metropolitan Hospital said that the patient had died one hour before she was shifted there.

Saima was the daughter of Emdad Ullah of Nayahat area of Oxygen-Kaptai Link Road in the port city. On March 17, 2015, Saima and Morshed wedlocked with each other.
