Comilla: The authorities of Comilla University (CU) on Monday announced to close the university for an indefinite period following killing of a student.
A leader of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) was killed in a factional clash in CU over a candle-lighting programme in front of the portrait of Bangabandhu early Monday.
The male students have been asked to vacate the halls by 11.00 am while the female ones by 2.00 pm on Monday.
The student, Khaled Saifulla, was killed and five others were injured in a clash between two factions of Bangladesh Chhatra League at the university.
The deceased was identified as Khaled Saifullah, a student of Marketing Department and BCL organizing secretary of Kabi Nazrul Hall unit.
Sources said the clash ensued between followers of two factions of the university unit BCL over a candle-lighting programme at 12:01am in front of the portrait of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, marking the start of August, the month of mourning.
According to sources, supporters of President of Comilla University’s unit Alif and another BCL leader Elias Sabuj locked into a clash, over enlightening candles marking the month of morning, leaving six injured.
Bullet-hit Khaled was immediately taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital but the duty doctors declared him dead.
Khaled was a leader of Sabuj group.
