Dhaka, Mar 30: A court in Dhaka on Wednesday issued an arrest warrant against BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia and 27 others in a case filed for killing passengers hurling petrol bomb in Jatrabari area of the city.
Judge of Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge’s Court Kamrul Hossain Mollah passed the order after after accepting the charges against 38 people, including the 28.
Apart from this, the court also fixed April 27 for submitting report in this regard.
On May 6, 2015, DB police pressed charges against the BNP chief and 37 others in the case filed over the incident petrol bomb attack that killed one person and injured 28 others.
Bashir Uddin, sub-inspector of DB police and also the investigation officer of the case, submitted the charge sheet in the case.
On January 23, 2015 at least 29 people suffered burn injuries after arsonists hurled two petrol bombs at a passenger bus of Glory Paribahan at Katherpool of Jatrabari around 9:30pm on its way to Rupganj from Gulistan.
On January 24, Sub-inspector of Jatrabari Police Station KM Nuruzzaman filed two cases–one for killing and the other for hurling petrol bombs–under the Special Powers Act, accusing Khaleda as the mastermind of the attacks.
The other accused include BNP Joint Secretaries General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi and Amanullah Aman, its Standing Committee members Barrister Rafiqul Islam Miah and MK Anwar, party vice-chairman Selima Rahman, Dhaka City BNP member secretary Habibun Nabi Khan Sohel, Khaleda’s special assistant Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas, BNP central leaders Azizul Bari Helal, Sultan Salauddin Tuku and Swechchhasebak Dal secretary Sharafatullah Safu.
