Dhaka, May 02: Bangladesh has reported deaths of five more coronavirus patients in the last 24 hours, taking the country’s death toll to 175. Of the deceased, three are male and two are female. All of them are the inhabitants of Dhaka.Professor Dr Nasima Sultana, Additional Director General of Health Directorate, said in the regular health bulletin through online on Saturday.
She said: “552 more people tested positive for the deadly contagious disease over the same period, pushing up the total number of confirmed cases to 8790.”
In the last 24 hours, 6,193 samples were collected and out of them, 5,827 samples were examined where 552 got positive results for the virus. 3 more people have also recovered from the disease, taking the cured patients to 177, she added.
Bangladesh reported its first three cases of COVID-19 on March 8.
The new coronavirus pandemic first emerged in the Chinese city of Wuhan in December last year.
The World Health Organisation declared the coronavirus crisis a pandemic on March 11.
The deadly virus spread to 210 countries and territories, killing some 239,711 people globally, according to Worldometer, a website which compiles number of new coronavirus cases and deaths from it.
As many as 3,413,169 people worldwide caught the virus. Among them, 1,086,525 people recovered from the virus, the website said.
