Chargesheets against Khaleda among 50 in two separate arson cases


Dhaka: Police on Wednesday submitted two chargesheets against BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia and 50 others of her party in two arson cases filed separately with Darussalam Police Station of the city in 2015.

In the charge sheets, Khaleda was shown as mastermind of both the attacks in Darussalam area during the BNP-led 20-party alliance anti-government agitation.

Other senior BNP leaders accused in the two cases are Joint Secretary General Amanullah Aman, Executive Committee member Syeda Ashifa Ashrafi Papiya, Habibun Nabi Khan Sohel, Assistant Secretary for Student Affairs Sultan Salauddin Tuku and Mir Sharafat Ali Sapu.

Sub-inspectors of Darussalam Police Station Shahidur Rahman and Abdur Razzaq, also investigation officers in the cases, submitted the chargesheets with the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court in Dhaka.

It was learnt that the chargesheet was submitted to the court on April 30 but it was disclosed on Wednesday.

Magistrate of the court Emdadul Haque signed the chargesheets. A total of 25 people were made witnesses in the case.

Police appealed to the court to issue arrest warrant for Khaleda showing her fugitive.

On March 3 in 2015, sub-inspector of Darussalam Police Station Shah Alam filed the case for their alleged involvement in attacking arson a bus at Gabtali Bus Terminal in the city.

On February 4 in 2015, sub-inspector of Darussalam Police Station Monir Hossain filed the case under Special Power Act for their alleged involvement in attacking arson a bus‘Ananda Super’ at Hazrat Ali Kola Market near Shah Ali Mazar in the city.
