Chamber judge stays Khaleda’s bail order in 2 Cumilla cases


Dhaka, May 29: Chamber judge on Tuesday stayed High Court order granting bail to BNP chairperson Khaleda in 2 Cumilla case, hearing in full bench Thursday.Chamber Judge Justice Hasan Foez Siddique stayed Khaleda’s bail in two cases, which she secured On Monday.

Hours after the High Court granted bail to the BNP chief in two cases filed in Cumilla, the government filed two petitions with the Supreme Court seeking stay on the HC bail orders.

Today, the chamber judge forwarded the issue for hearing of the Appellate Division on Thursday.

Besides, the High Court kept the bail verdict of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia waiting for Thursday in two cases filed within Dhaka.

An HC bench comprising Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Shahidul Karim fixed the date after holding hearing on the petitions.

Khaleda’s Lawyer prayed for bail saying she is ill and 74 years old; and the cases were filed under bailable sections. Deputy Attorney General AKM Amin Uddin opposed the bail petitions.

These two bail pleas were filed on May 22 in two other cases lodged in Dhaka in 2016 on charges of observing “fake” birthday and “demeaning” Bangladesh’s national flag.
