Bus plunges into canal kill 9 in Madaripur


Madaripur, May 27: At least nine people were killed and 40 others also injured as a passenger bus plunged into a canal breaking the railing of a bridge in Madaripur sadar on Friday.

Five deceased were identified as—Hiru Lal Baroi, 60, of Barisal, Sufia Begum, 50, of Jhalkathi, Titu, 40, supervisor of the bus, Mohammad Ali, 45, and Mizan, 40.

The incident happened at Samaddar Bridge at about 2:00pm.

Madaripur Police Super, Sarwar Hossain, has said a Barisal-bound bus, belonging to Sugandha Paribahan, from Madaripur plunged into a canal breaking the railing of Samaddar Bridge under Madaripur Sadar in the afternoon that left five people dead and dozens injured.

Rescue operation is going on after the incident occurred in the area.
