Bus accident kills 7, injured 20 in Comilla


Comilla, October 01: At least seven people were killed and 20 others injured as a passenger bus plunged into a roadside ditch in Comilla’s Chandina at 11.45am on Sunday.The accident took place at Nuritala on the Dhaka-Chittagong highway.

The deceased are identified as Pinki Aktar, 25, wife of Manik Mia of Maona in Gazipur, her one and half year old son Minhaj, Golap Khan, 60, son of Biram Uddin of Khalilpur village, his wife Anwara Begum, 55, Towhidul Islam, 38, son of Sabir Box of Banguri village in Debidar upazila, Sujon, 22, son of Shahjahan of Bamonikhola village in Chandina and Md Jasim Uddin, 35, son of Abdul Mannan ofJasapur village in Sadar upazila.

The Dhaka-bound bus of Tisha Paribahan, coming from Companiganj, fell into the roadside ditch as its driver lost control over the steering, leaving five people dead on the spot and 17 others injured around 12 pm, said Paritosh Ghosh, superintendent of Highway Police (Comilla Zone).


Sub inspector (SI) of highway police Jiban Chanda Hazari said the accident took place when the driver of the bus failed to control it.

Among the injured, two succumbed to injuries at Chandina upazila health complex while 10 others were admitted to the hospital.

Five other injured were taken to Comilla Sadar Hospital.

Two units of fire brigade salvaged the bus with the help of wrecker.
