Buddhist monk injured by chopping in Cox’s bazar

Cox`s bazaar, July 13: A monk was chopped by his rival another monk in a Buddhist temple at Cox`s bazaar over land feuds on Wednesday.

The injured monk was identified as Upendita, 77. He was admitted to Cox’s bazaar Sadar Hospital in critical condition.

The incident took place at Uma Tarang Buddha Bihar in the district’s Sadar upazila around 7:30am.

Cox’s bazaar Superintendent of Police (SP) Shyamal Kumar Nath visited the scene.

President of Uma Tarang Buddha Bihar Mong Thachin said that the man who attacked on Upendita was seen by a 10-12-year-old child.

He is a drug addicted. He beat and chopped the monk with rod and sharp weapon as he denied giving him money.

Bakhtiar Uddin Chowdhury, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Cox’s bazaar Sadar Upazila, confirmed the news.
