BNP to write letter to FBI seeking information on Shafik Rehman


Dhaka, April 20: BNP will write letter to Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) of the US seeking information about prominent journalist Shafik Rehman’s  engagement  on a case filed for plotting ‘to abduct and kill’ Sajeeb Wazed Joy, son of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

The decision was taken at an emergency meeting of party’s senior leaders held with chairperson Khaleda Zia in the chair at her Gulshan office on Tuesday night and decided to extend legal assistance to the detained Shafik Rehman.

The meeting, which began at 8:00 pm and end 11:00 pm.

Sources close to the meeting said the letter will be sent to the FBI within a day or two.

Among others, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Standing committee member Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Barrister Jomiruddin Sarkar, Brigadier General (retd.) ASM Hannan Shah, Mirza Abbas, Abdul Moin Khan, Nazrul Islam Khan, Vice-Chairman Abdullah Al nemana, Major (retd.) Hafiz Uddin Ahmed, Shah Moazzam Hossain, Chairperson’s advisor M Osman Faruk, Advocate Khandaker Mahbub Hossain, Shamsuzzaman Dudu, join secretary general Mahbub Uddin Khokon, Mujibur Rahman Sarwar, Syed Moazzam were also present in the meeting.
