BNP MP gets 5yrs jail in tax-evasion case

Dhaka, October 21: A Dhaka court on Monday awarded five years jail to BNP MP M Harunur Rashid (Chapainawabganj-3) and different term imprisonment to three others in a tax-evasion case.Dhaka Special Court Judge Sheikh Nazmul Alam handed down the verdict.

The court sentenced Harunur to five years imprisonment and fined him Tk 50 lakh, in default, he will have to serve extra six months in jail.

The court also sentenced two other convicts –private television channel NTV Managing Director Mohammad Enayetur Rahim and owner of a car showroom named Sky Auto Ishtiaq Sadek—to two years and three years jail respectively.

Rahim was also fined Tk 100,000 lakh, in default, he will have to serve extra two months in jail while Sadek was filed Tk 40 lakh, in default, he will have to serve extra six months in jail.

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) filed the case against the them for evading tax while purchasing cars in 2007.
