BNP leader MK Anwar passes away

Dhaka, October 24: BNP standing committee member and former minister MK Anwar died at his city’s residence Elephant road early Tuesday (Inna lillahe…).He was 84 years of age.

The veteran BNP leader and former bureaucrat breathed his last at his residence around 1:15am.

BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia and Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir expressed their deep condolence at the death of the veteran leader.

The first Namaz-e-Janaza of MK Anwar will be held at 10:00am at city’s Kataban mosque. The second Janaza is scheduled to be held in front of the party’s central office at Nayapaltan at 12:00pm while the third one will be held at the South Plaza of the national parliament around 1:00pm.

He is expected to be buried at his ancestral graveyard in Comilla’s Homna after performing the final Namaz-e-Janaza after Asr Prayer tomorrow.

The veteran BNP leader had long been suffering from diabetics, heart disease and various old age complications.

Anwar is survived by two sons and a daughter to mourn his death.

He retired from the government service in 1990 after discharging the duty of the Cabinet Secretary.

Anwar joined BNP in 1991 and was elected MP from Comilla’s Homna constituency for several times.
