Gopalganj, April 30: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Saturday alleged that there are BNP-Jamaat nexus of committing secret killings and they launched the heinous act being failed to topple the government.

“The BNP-Jamaat clique does not want development of the people…they cannot give anything except burning people to death and destruction,” the premier said while addressing a function arranged on the occasion of inauguration of Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib Eye Hospital and Training Institute and laying the foundation stone of Sheikh Lutfar Rahman Dental College.PM places wreath

The Premier said the BNP-Jamaat conducted attacks on mosques, temples and churches when they were in power. “They even killed a Krishak League leader inside a mosque in Bogra during their rule,” she said.

According to the Prime Minister, “After being failed to overthrow the government, they have chosen the path of killing teachers and the common people…they are killing teachers and the common people selectively.”

Health Minister Mohammad Nasim, chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Health Ministry Sheikh Fazlul Karim Selim and former health adviser to the Prime Minister Professor Dr Modasser Ali also spoke on the occasion. Information Minister Hasanul Haque Inu and Railway Minister Mazibul Haque were present on the dais.

Those who were engaged in money laundering, corruption and embezzling orphans’ money cannot change the fate of the common people, she said.

Referring to the construction of Padma Bridge, the Prime Minister said starting work on the bridge with the country’s own funding was a challenge for the government.

In this connection, she said the World Bank had brought baseless allegation of conspiracy regarding the bridge to undermine her government and the countrymen. “But the allegation was proved wrong,” she said.

She said the construction of the bridge would have been advanced further, had the World Bank not suspended the funding.

Sheikh Hasina categorically said that she is doing politics to change the fate of the common people and not to change her own fate.

She said her government has been working hard to improve the living standard of the people through ensuring their basic rights like food, clothe, medicare, education and housing.

From the function, Sheikh Hasina also inaugurated the newly-constructed Chapail Bridge over Madhumati River, Tungipara Head Post Office, Gopalganj District Shishu Academy Complex and Jatiya Mohila Sangstha Bhaban by unveiling their plaques.

The Premier also laid the foundation stones of Gopalganj Textile Engineering College, Gopalganj 10 Kilowatt FM Radio Station, Gopalganj-Kashiani-Gobra Rail Line Project and Tungipara and Muksudpur Upazila Muktijoddha Complexes.
