BIWTA’s 15 officials, family members test positive for COVID-19

Dhaka, June 05: At least 15 officials of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) and their family members have been infected with coronavirus (COVID-19).According to sources, some engineers, account’s department officials and other sections’ employees tested positive for COVID-19.

One of the high officials of BIWTA is also on the COVID-19 infected list.

Many sections of BIWTA such as dredging, accounts and finance, administrative and planning departments remain open to meeting emergency in water transportation.

Most of the officials are taking treatment from their own residences, but one employee has been admitted at Kurmitola General Hospital in Dhaka for treatment, BIWTA sources said on Friday.

The infected engineers and employees were doing their offices at Motijheel in Dhaka.

Even, some employees in BIWTA’s dredger in Narayanganj have also been found with COVID-19 positive.

Abdul Awal, president of BIWTA officers’ association, said at least 12 engineers and other employees of BIWTA, their wives and children have been infected with coronavirus.
