BGMEA gets 6-month to demolish building

Dhaka, March 12: The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court (SC) on Sunday permitted Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) a six-month time period to demolish its building constructed illegally at city’s Begunbari canal and Hatirjheel Lake.

Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha led a three-member Appellate Division passed the order following a petition filed by BGMEA on Wednesday seeking three years’ time for shifting the offices from the existing building.

The Supreme Court on March 5 dismissed a petition seeking review of its judgment upholding an April 2011 High Court order for demolishing the 15-storey BGMEA building.
