Dhaka, July 21: Bangladesh would live in the world community as a victorious nation as well as a peaceful and prosperous country for which it was born in 1971, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said on Thursday.
“We should remember that we are a victorious nation. Bangladesh is not a place for terrorists and militants. There will be no place for the terrorists in the soil of Bangladesh,” the Prime Minister said this while addressing a function at President Guard Regiment (PGR) headquarters at Dhaka Cantonment to mark the 41st founding anniversary of the regiment.
Pointing out the recent spate of terrorism in the country, the prime minister said, “It is our misfortune that the image of Bangladesh has been tarnished a little bit due to the incidents. But the country has the capacity to tackle any situation.”
Sheikh Hasina said the international community remains with Bangladesh as they could understand its capacity to tackle any situation.
Bangladesh was born to live as a peaceful and prosperous nation, and the present government is working to make the dream true and reach the benefit of the independence to the people, she said.
Sheikh Hasina said the terrors are changing the way of their crime and they are using sophisticated technology in their terror activities. “So, everyone, particularly the people responsible for security, should be given modern training to enhance their capacity to tackle the situation,” she said.
Underscoring importance on keeping up the security forces familiar with the newest technology, she said they have to know about new training and tactics to make them enable to thwart out any security threats and terror plots.
The prime minister also said she always remained beside PGR members and she will also stay beside them in future. She hoped that PGR members would always nurture the spirit of sincerity and dedication to ensure safety and security of the heads of the country and government.
Sheikh Hasina said everybody acclaimed the role of PGR in safeguarding the security of the very important persons and holding different state programmes. “As the head of the government I see you very closely and I’m pleased with your dutifulness, hard work and sincerity,” she said.
Army chief General Abu Belal Muhammad Shafiul Huq, and PGR Commandant Brigadier General Md. Jahangir Harun received the Prime Minister on her arrival at PGR headquarters.
PM’s security advisor Major General (retd) Tarique Ahmed Siddique, Chiefs of Naval and Air Staff, Principal Staff Officer (PSO) of the Armed Forces Division and senior military and civil officials were present.
PGR Commandant Brigadier General Md. Jahangir Harun also spoke on the occasion.
The Prime Minister exchanged pleasantries with PGR officials and junior commissioned officers while a smartly turned out contingent of the Guards gave her salute.
