Bangladesh coronavirus cases pass 7000


Dhaka, April 29: The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Bangladesh has reached 7,103 as 641 more people tested positive for the virus in the last 24 hours.Professor Dr Nasima Sultana, Additional Director General of Health Directorate, said in the health bulletin through online on Wednesday.

Eight more people also died, taking the death toll from coronavirus to 163. Of the deceased, six are male and two are female. Six people are the inhabitants of Dhaka and the rest are outside of the capital, she said.

In the last 24 hours, 4,968 samples were examined and out of them 641 got positive results for the virus. Eleven more people have also recovered from the disease, raising the number of cured patients to 150, she added.

Bangladesh reported its first three cases of COVID-19 on March 8.

The new coronavirus pandemic first emerged in the Chinese city of Wuhan in December last year.

The World Health Organisation declared the coronavirus crisis a pandemic on March 11.

The deadly virus spread to 210 countries and territories, killing some 218,187 people globally, according to Worldometer, a website which compiles number of new coronavirus cases and deaths from it.

As many as 3,147,626 people worldwide caught the virus. Among them, 961,871 people recovered from the virus, the website said.
