Dhaka, May 12: Arrested Safat Ahmed and Sadman Sakif, two of the five accused of raping two university students at Rain Tree hotel in Banani, have been placed on remand by a court on Friday.
Producing them before the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) court, Inspector Ismat Ara Amy of the Women Support and Investigation Division (Victim Support Centre) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) pleaded to place the accused on a 10-day remand. After hearing the plea of Inspector Ismat Ara Amy, who is also the investigation officer of the case, the court placed Safat on a six-day and Sadman on a five-day remand for questioning.
Earlier, the accused were produced before the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) court at about 2:30pm after questioning at the city’s Detective Branch (DB) office at Minto Road. After taking them to the CMM court, they were kept at a cell of the court.
The two rapists had burst into tears getting onto the dock of the court. At that time, their counsels were found consoling them.
Earlier, addressing at about 12:00 noon on Friday at the DMP Media Centre at Minto Road, DMP joint commissioner (Crime) Krishanapada Roy said police found the authenticity of raping two private university girls at a Banani hotel by Safat and Sadman.
It may be mentioned that two girls filed a case with Banani Police Station in the evening of May 6 last bringing the complain of being rape against five persons including Safat Ahmed and Nayeem Ashraf. On March 28 last, Safat and Nayeem invited them to a birthday party at The Raintree Hotel at Banani. Later, they were taken to the Raintree Hotel at House No. 49, Road No. 27, Block-K at Banani where Safat and Nayeem raped the two girls putting arms on their heads. It was also mentioned in the case that the entire rape incident was filmed by Safat’s car driver Billal. The accused of the rape case are Safat Ahmed, Nayeem Ashraf, Sadman Sakif, Safat’s car driver Billal and bodyguard Abul Kalam Azad.
