Dhaka, September 21: At least 265 people were killed and 1,153 injured in 211 accidents on different routes of road, rail and waterway during Eid-ul-Azha holidays across the country.
Bangladesh Passengers Welfare Association (BPWA) made the assertion while addressing a press conference at the National Press Club on Wednesday in the city.
Mozammel Huq Chowdhury, secretary general of the association, said they prepared the report based on the news of different media revealed from 7 to 18 September.
The report shows 248 people died in 193 road accidents, and 1056 others were injured. Eight inicidents of boat capsizing happened, leaving 10 people dead and 30 injured.
A total of seven people were crushed under the wheels of trains and 50 were injured falling from train roofs.
Mozammel Huq Chowdhury mentioned a number of causes behind the accidents, including excessive speed, overtaking, lack of road divider, defying of traffic rules, reckless driving etc.
