Dhaka, April 27: Condemning the recent killings spree in the country, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has alleged that the arsonists who burnt people to death are now instigating the incidents of assassination.
“Those who had burnt people to death in the name of movement have now become engaged in assassination. Being failed in their movement, they have now resorted to assassination in a pre-planned way,” she said.
“Recent killings are being carried out in a very planned way. People belonging to different caste, creed and religion are being murdered. These are very pre-planned,” she said while presiding over the 4th meeting of the Fast Track Project Monitoring Committee held at her office in the city on Wednesday.
According to the prime minister, such killings are being carried out in a bid to destabilise the country. “I want that the killers must be arrested,” she said.
“Law enforcement agencies have been working to this end. I hope they’ll be able to hunt down the criminals after investigations,” she said.
PM’s Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim briefed reporters after the meeting.
Hasina further alleged that such killers in the name of Islam start killing people. “These people who are carrying out such killings do not believe in any religion and boundary. The militants have no religion and boundary.”
Earlier on Monday evening, two people, including USAID staff Xulhaz Mannan, 35, and his friend Mahbub Rabbi Tonoy, 25, were hacked to death inside Xilhaz’s apartment at Kalabagan in the capital.
Assailants, introducing themselves as courier service deliverymen, entered the apartment and hacked Xulhaz, and Tonoy to death there.
