Dhaka, June 23: Bangladesh Army has reiterated that like the countrymen it was determined to see the killers of Sohagi Jahan Tonu, the Comilla student are brought to justice after their arrest and identification and it was extending all out cooperation to the ongoing investigation in this regard.

In a statement through the inter services public relations (ISPR) on Thursday said, it noted  some ‘baseless and irrelevant statements’ made from time to time by the family of Tonu that leaves the scope for undermining the image of the Bangladesh Army.

“Like all families living inside the Cantonment Tonu’s family have been provided with all facilities. Their free movement had never been curtailed. After her murder guards were detailed initially in the interest of security and investigation in their place of residence. It was later withdrawn after improvement in security. Besides, in the interest of security all are questioned to ascertain their identity during movement inside the cantonment. Such military practice is not intended to harass anyone personally or curtail individual freedom,” the statement read.

Yar Hossain, the father of Tonu is a serving member of the Comilla cantonment Board, who is getting the security inside the cantonment like others.

Attempt to kill him by running him over under a bus or a  motor cycle is something imaginary of which Tonu’s family have not yet been informed anyone.

When asked in this regard by his superior officer, the executive officer of the cantonment board, a class I civilian officer on deputation, Yar Hossain failed to provide any reliable information.

Besides, he has not lodged any complaint to the Army authority or to the investigators so far that has been found as irrelevant.

The family of Tonu like other Army families, are still living inside the cantonment.

The Army authority is determined to extend all cooperation to the aggrieved family of Tonu and proper investigation to her murder”, the ISPR statement said.
