Arm losing student Rajib dies

Dhaka, Apr 17: At last, the arm losing student Rajib Hossain,who lost his right arm to a race between two buses in Dhaka, has died.The Titumir College student Rajib died around 12:30 midnight on early hour Tuesday. He was on life support before taking his last breath.

Rajib’s aunty Lipi Akhter confirmed the news to media. “Our Rajib has died around 12:30 midnight. Rajib’s body will be taken to his village home Baufal today (Tuesday),” she said.

Meanwhile, the Jatri Adhikar Andolan expressed its deep shock over the demise of student Rajib. The organization will hold a programme in front of the National Press Club today at 10am.

Rajib was put on life support when he began having breathing difficulty at the hospital’s intensive care unit on Apr 10. He also appeared less ‘conscious’ of his surroundings than he was before.

Dr Shamsuzzaman, the chief of the medical board formed for his care, said at the time, “This happens in the case of a head injury.”

Besides losing his right arm from the elbow, Rajib had broken bones in the front and back of the head in the accident.

Rajib’s another aunty Jahanara Begum said that the doctors declared him dead around 1:45am on Tuesday.

The undergraduate student’s arm was crushed between the two buses due to the reckless driving of the drivers of BTRC and Swajan Paribahan.

Rajib was first admitted to Panthapath’s Samorita Hospital and then transferred to DMCH.

The High Court earlier ordered the BRTC and Swajan Paribahan to pick the bill for Rajib’s treatment, and asked why they should not pay him Tk 10 million in damages.

Rajib lost his parents a few years ago. His two younger brothers are studying at a madrasa in Jatrabarhi.

He also lived in Jatrabarhi and worked at a computer shop.
