Another Dhaka café attack main accused held in Natore

Bogra, July 28: Police claimed to have arrested one of the masterminds of the Holey Artisan Bakery attack in Dhaka’s Gulshan on July 1 last year in Singra upazila of Natore early Friday.

The arrestee was identified as Aslam Hossain Rashed alias Rash alias Abu Jarra, 24 was arrested around 5:30 am Friday from Singra bazaar bus-stand area.

Rashed hailed from Manda upazila in Naogaon.

Bogra police superintendent Asaduzzaman said he had carried arms and grenades from Chapainawabganj to Dhaka for the attack.

Confirming the incident, counter terrorism unit chief Monirul Islam said Bogra and Natore district police, counter terrorism unit and police headquarter ‘Lawful interception center’ jointly conducted the drive.

Rash is being transferring to Dhaka from Natore and he will be produced before the court as Gulshan attack accused, he added.

On July 1 last year, gunmen stormed the Holey Artisan Bakery in the capital’s Gulshan and killed 20 hostages, mostly foreign nationals and two police officials.

Army and navy commandos stormed the cafe later in the next morning to end the 12-hour hostage standoff which left five attackers and a staff of the restaurant dead.
