Tangail, September 19: Tangail District Awami League on Monday brought out a procession and held demonstration demanding the hanging of all accused including Amanur Rahman Khan Rana MP in freedom fighter Faruque murder case.
The procession that was brought out from Shaheed Minar in Tangail town paraded different streets demanding the hanging of Faruque murder case accused including Amanur Rahman Khan Rana MP.
Tangail district AL general secretary Zoaherul Islam Zoaher, municipality mayor and district AL joint secretary Jamilur Rahman Miron, late freedom-fighter Faruque Ahmed’s wife and district AL joint secretary Nahar Ahmed, leaders of different associate bodies of AL took part in the procession.
Meanwhile, Amanur Rahman Khan Rana MP of Tangail-3 constituency was shifted to Kashimpur Central Jail in Gazipur district from Tangail on Monday afternoon.
Absconding accused and ruling party lawmaker Amanur Rahman Khan Rana surrendered to a court in Tangail on Sunday morning. Rejecting his bail prayer, the court ordered police to send him to jail. He was kept at the medical centre of Tangail Jail on Sunday.
Later, a demonstration was held in front of the office of Tangail deputy commissioner.
Sources at the Detective Branch of police said the bullet-riddled body of district AL member and freedom-fighter Faruque Ahmed was found at his house premises at Collegepara in Tangail town on January 18, 2013. Three days after the incident, Faruque’s wife Nahar Ahmed filed a murder case with Tangail Sadar Model Police Station against unnamed persons.
On August 11, 2014, one Anisul Islam Raja was arrested in connection with the murder case from Baby taxi stand in the town. On the same charge, one Mohammad Ali was arrested on August 24 last year. Both of them submitted confessional statements to court under Section 164.
In their confessional statements, the arrested accused said four brothers of Tangail’s influential ‘Khan Family’–MP Rana, business leader Kakon, former mayor of Tangail municipality Shahidur Rahman Khan Mukti and former vice-president of BCL central committee Saniat Khan Bappa–were directly involved in freedom-fighter Faruque murder case.
Police sources said accused Raja said MP Rana had ordered him to take Faruque Ahmed from the local Awami League office to one of his offices at Collegepara on January 18, 2013. Raja came across Faruque Ahmed on his way to the AL office. Then Raja left his rickshaw and boarded the rickshaw carrying Faruque and took him to Rana MP’s office.
Afterward, Faruque Ahmed expressed his willingness to the accused to become a candidate for Tangail district AL general secretary post. The accused cautioned Faruque not to be a candidate for the post, but he rejected their request. Amid altercations, Faruque came out of the office. At one stage, accused Kabir Hossain fired at Faruque from behind while other accused strangled him so that he could not shout.
After the confirmation of Faruque’s death, blood was washed up there at the directive of MP Rana. Afterward, two persons including accused Raja put Faruque’s body into an autorickshaw and sat on both sides of him. They later left Faruque body at his house premises.
