‘AL-BNP should be united to establish workers rights’: Shipping minister

Dhaka, April 1: The ruling party Awami League (AL) and the opposition BNP to be united to establish the rights of country’s working people, Shipping Minister Shajahan Khan urged on Sunday

The Minister came up the urge while speaking at a rally organised by Dhaka District Tank-Lorry Covered Van Labour Union marking the May Day in front of the Jatiya Press Club.

“No matter either I’m AL or BNP. We have to pledge to come to a common platform to establish the rights of country’s working people,” Shajahan Khan, who is also a workers’ leader, said.

“We must resist those who had killed many innocent transport workers in arson attacks,” he said.

Laying emphasis on united movement of transport workers and employees the shipping minister said, “Transport worker’s movement will continue until they get appointment letters of their respective jobs.”

Referring to losses and casualties during the BNP-Jamaat agitation, Shahjahan Khan claimed that the failed BNP-Jamaat’s movement left 92 transport workers, including drivers and helpers, killed in burn injuries while 1,000 vehicles were torched and 3,000 others were damaged.

Sarak Sramik Federation General Secretary Osman Ali presided over the brief rally. Organizing Secretary Mokhlesur Rahman and Publicity Secretary Imam Hossain Bacchu, among others, spoke there.
