Acting CJ Justice Wahhab Miah resigns


Dhaka, Feb 02: Justice Md Abdul Wahhab Miah, who has been performing duties as the Chief Justice (CJ) for the last four months, resigned hours after the appointment of new Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain.A staff of Justice Wahhab Miah carried the resignation letter to the president’s office this evening, said a close aide of the justice wishing anonymity.

Besides, Bangabhaban sources confirmed the receipt of the resignation letter.

Earlier in the day, Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain, an Appellate Division judge and a junior to Justice Md Abdul Wahhab Miah, was appointed the new chief justice.

The post of the chief justice fell vacant as Chief Justice SK Sinha resigned on November 10 last year after he went on leave on health ground in October.
