Abrar death: Prothom Alo served legal notice to pay Tk10cr

Dhaka, November 03: A legal notice has been served to Bangla language daily Prothom Alo Editor Matiur Rahman and other concerned persons, seeking Tk 10 crore as compensation over the death of Dhaka Residential Model College student Naimul Abrar Rahat.Abrar was a ninth-grader at the prominent educational institute and died after being electrocuted on Friday, November 1 at the event of organised by Kishor Alo, a publication meant for the young readers of Prothom Alo.

Supreme Court lawyer Faizullah Foyez sent the notice on Sunday towards the publisher and editor of the Prothom Alo, the editor of Kishor Alo, the secretaries of the information, education and power, energy and mineral resources ministries.

The compensators (Prothom Alo’s publisher and editor, the editor of Kishor Alo) have been directed to provide an explanation regarding the incident within three days of receiving the notice and asked to pay to Abrar’s family within seven days.

Necessary legal steps will be taken if they fail to abide by the directives stated on the notice.
