A garment worker to die for killing BGIWF leader Aminul

Tangail. Apr 08: A Tangail court on Sunday sentenced absconding garment worker Mostafizur Rahman to death for killing garment worker leader Aminul Islam in 2012.Judge of Tangail Special Judge’s Court Waheduzzaman Shikder passed the order.

Aminul Islam was an organizer of Bangladesh Centre for Workers Solidarity (BCWS) for Savar-Ashulia area and also a leader of Bangladesh Garments and Industrial Workers’ Federation (BGIWF).

On April 4, 2012, the victim Aminul went missing after he was taken away from his Ashulia office. Later, the body of the victim was found in Ghatail in Tangail.

Two days later, police from Tangail’s Ghatail Police Station recovered the body of an unknown individual found by the side of the Tangail-Mymensingh Road. The body was buried after no claimants came forward.

But the pictures of the body published in newspapers were identified by Aminul’s family and the body was dug up with the permission of a magistrate. Aminul was later buried at his ancestral home in Kaliakoir.

The murder received international attention. The government, under pressure from labour unions, announced a Tk 100,000 reward for information about the whereabouts of suspect Mostafizur Rahman.
