Dhaka, July 19: A total of 66.64% students have passed in this year’s Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and equivalent examinations across Bangladesh.Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid along with the chairmen of all the education boards handed over the results to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at her official residence Ganobhaban around 10am on Thursday.
The overall success rate was dropped by 2.27 percentage points while the number of GPA-5 achievers fell by 8,464.
Last year, the overall pass rate was 68.91 percent and the number of students having achieved the highest grade registered at 37,969.
A total of 13,11,457 examinees from 8,864 educational institutions took part in the examinations this year. Of them, 6, 35,697 are male and 5,47,989 female.
The HSC and its equivalent examinations under ten education boards began on April 2 this year. Theoretical examinations ended on May 13 while practical tests were held from May 14 to May 23.
Of these, 64.55 percent passed the HSC examinations while 78.67 percent came out successful in Madrasah Board and 75.55 percent in Technical Board examinations.
Girls continued to outperform boys with a 69.7 per cent pass rate, compared to 63.88 per cent.
A total of 8,58,801 examinees, out of 12,88,757, came out successful in the examinations in all the 10 education boards of the country.

This year, a total of 29,262 students secured the highest grade GPA 5 against 37,969 last year.
Among the successful students, 25,562 achieved the highest grade GPA 5 under eight general education boards while 1,244 under the Madrassah Education Board and 2,456 under the Technical and Vocational Education Board.
All candidates can get their results from their respective examination centres; educational institutions; websites of their respective boards and through SMS on their mobile phones from 1:00 pm.
To get the results, students can also log on to the website www.educationboardresults.gov.bd.
For eight general education boards, the students have to type HSC<Space>first three letters of the respective boards<space>roll number<space>2018 and then send to 16222.
The students of Alim have to writ Alim<space>Mad<space>roll number<space>2018 and sent to 16222 while the students of vocational courses have to type HSC<space>Tec<space>roll number<space>2018 and send to 1622.
A total of 12,88,757 students participated in this year’s HSC and its equivalent examinations which were held from April 2 to May 23.
