Dhaka, September 4: The government would launch a food friendly programme from September 7 and 50 lakh families would get rice at a rate of Tk 10 per kilogram.
“Prime minister Sheikh Hasina is scheduled to inaugurate the programme in Chilmari upazila of the district at 10:00am on Wednesday,” food minister Qamrul Islam told reporters after a food planning monitoring unit meeting healf at the secretariat on Sunday.
Among others, finance minister AMA Muhith, agriculture minister Matia Chowdhury, and disaster management and relief minister Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya attended the meeting.
Under the programme, selected card holders will get 30 kilograms of rice every month through village ration dealers.
Fifty lakh ultra poor families across the country will get rice for five months under the ‘Food Friendly Programme for the Ultra Poor.’
The programme is going on to distribute food ration cards among 50 lakh selected ultra poor families across the country.
The ultra poor families have been selected through the local public representatives. They will get 30 kg rice in September, October and November in 2016 and March and April in 2017.
The months have been selected in view of non-availability of work for the day-labourers.
Qamrul Islam also said widows and disabled women people will get priority during the distribution programme.
