Noakhali, Feb 25: At least 50 mud houses in Nijhum Dwip were damaged after the island was battered by a storm for two hours on Monday morning.Dwip Chairman Mehraj Uddin said at least 200 maunds of dried fish were also destroyed when the storm hit between 8am and 10am.
Besides, a rice-laden trawler, caught in the storm, sank in the Meghna River at Tamaruddin Ghat in Hatiya Upazila, he said.
A speedboat capsized in Meghna during the storm, Upazila Nirbahi Officer Mohammad Nur-e-Alam said. The passengers were rescued and sent to Chattogram for treatment.
He said union parishad chairmen and members have been asked to estimate the damage.
