‘5 JMB militants planned to carry major incident including suicide attacks’: DMP

Dhaka, August 12: Chief of Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime unit Monirul Islam on Friday said that five militants, members of banned militant outfit Jama`atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB), who were held from the capital on Thursday night, came to Dhaka in a bid to carry out suicide attacks.

Chief of Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime unit Monirul Islam disclosed this to newsmen at the DMP media centre on Friday morning.

Monirul Islam said, “They are new members of banned militant outfit JMB. We suspect that they were involved in the recent attacks in the country. In primary interrogation, we have learnt that they came to Dhaka to carry out suicide attacks”.

A team of Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime unit of police, in a drive, arrested them from the capital’s Technical More area on Thursday midnight.
