Dhaka, August 6: Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) will introduce 30 air-conditioned buses in Gulshan areas.
“These buses will start to ply inside Gulshan, posh residential area, in the capital from August 10. Commuters will have to pay Tk 15 each for plying on these buses,” DNCC) mayor Annisul Huq disclosed it while speaking at a roundtable at CIRDAP Auditorium in the capital on Saturday.
Institute of Architects Bangladesh (IAB) and Bangladesh Institute of Planners (BIP) jointly organised the roundtable styled “Use of land and buildings in residential areas: Present context and future plans”.
The mayor said 500 rickshaws have been given permission to ply inside Gulshan for maintaining security there. Besides, entry and exit points have been restricted.
Regarding the ongoing demolition drive by Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (Rajuk), Annisul Huq said, “I’m totally confused, because law says us to evict illegal structures. On the other hand, much investment have taken places for these structures. So, we have taken two issues into account though these structures have been built in connivance of Rajuk and City Corporation officials.”
He said eviction drive was launched before the attack on Holey Artisan Restaurant at Gulshan on July 1 last. “However, I would like to request to the prime minister and ministers concerned that the demolition drive should not be carried out hastily. Otherwise, thousands of people will become jobless. So, those who have built structures should ensure security.”
The mayor said directives have already been given to all educational institutions, especially schools, colleges and universities not to allow any parking at their respective premises.
