Cox’s Bazar, Aug 06: A court placed three accused, including former Teknaf police OC Pradeep Kumar Das, on a 7-day remand each in connection with the killing of Maj (retd) Sinha Md Rashed Khan. Besides, four accused have been directed to be interrogated at the jail gate.
Cox’s Bazar Senior Judicial Magistrate’s Court passed the order on Thursday afternoon.
Earlier, Pradeep Kumar Das and seven others, including Liakat Ali – a withdrawn inspector of the Baharchhara Shamlapur investigation centre in Teknaf, were produced before the court together. Pradeep Kumar Das has been taken from Chattogram to Cox’s Bazar court.
On July 31 night, Sinha Rashed Khan was killed in police firing at Baharchhara Shamlapur checkpost on Cox’s Bazar-Teknaf Marine Drive Road in Teknaf.
Sinha’s elder sister Sharmen Shahria Ferdush filed a case against nine people including OC Pradeep and Md Liakat with Senior Judicial Magistrate Tamanna Farha’s court on Wednesday. Later, the court directed Teknaf Police Station to record the case and also ordered the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) to investigate the incident and submit a report on the progress of investigation within seven days.
The nine accused in the case are – Teknaf OC Pradeep Kumar Shaha, Inspector Liaqat Ali of Baharchhara Police Investigation Centre, Sub-inspector Nandadulal Raxit of Teknaf Police Station, four constables – Safanur Karim, Kamal Hossain, Abdullah Al Mamun, and Md Mostafa, ASI Liton Mia, and SI Tutul.
