3 including 2 Rohingya detained over Buddhist monk killing


Bandarban, May 15: Local police on Sunday arrested three suspected people including two Rohingya nationals of their alleged involvement with the murder of the Buddhist monk in Naikkhangchhari upazila of Bandarban.

The arrestees are Abdur Rahim, 25, Md Zia, 26, and Sa Mong Chak, 35. Among them Abdur Rahim and Md Zia are Myanmar Rohingya nationals while Sa Mong Chak hails from Uppar Chak Para.

The trio was detained on early Sunday from Naikkhangchhari, Mizanur Rahman, Police Super of Bandarban said.

The 70-year-old Buddhist monk, Mawng Shoi Wuu, Cha Bhikkhu, was found dead on Saturday morning, with his throat slit, in his temple Chak Nirvana Bouddha Kyang, which is some 250 yards from the nearest village Uppar Chak Para where his family members live.
