Jessore, June 15: Jessore police recovered three bodies from the bank of a river and police claimed locals lynched them on the ‘suspicion of being robbers’.
The bodies were found near the Kabodak River in Jhhikargachha Upazila on Wednesday morning.
“The deceased are yet to be identified and their age between 30 and 35 years. The bodies were sent to morgue for autopsy,” Molla Khabir Ahmed, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Jhikorgachha Police Station said.
Police said locals at the Upazila’s Krishnanagar had gathered in good numbers in the early hours of Wednesday, sensing a robbery attempt.
“I heard the locals managed to nab three of the robbers and lynched them,” the OC added.
He, however, could not confirm the identities of the victims.
A local ward councillor said he went the spot on Wednesday morning after being informed by residents.
“But I am not aware of either an incident of robbery or lynching last night,” said Councillor Shariful Islam.
Local police Sub Inspector Akram Hossain Chowdhury, who was on the spot, said the bodies bore several injury marks.
