Chattogram, October 05: Two persons were killed in a blast at a suspected militant den cordoned off by members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) in Mirsarai upazila of Chattogram this morning.Rab suspects the deceased were operatives of banned outfit Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) and were hiding in the house.
The identities of the deceased could not be known immediately.
Earlier, the members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) have cordoned off a house at Sonapahar village under Mirsarai upazila suspecting it a militant hideout.
Acting on a tip-off, several units of Rab-7 cordoned off the house around 1 am on Friday. Sensing the presence of the elite force members, the suspected militants opened fire on them, forcing the law enforcers to fire back.
The exchange of fire continued till 4 am. At one stage, the “extremists” exploded two bombs when the Rab members asked them to surrender.
RAB-7 Chattogram Assistant Director (Media) Mintanur Rahman confirmed the mater to media.
Locals said they heard the sound of explosions twice around 4 am. The tin-roofed house has partially been damaged after the explosion.
