Dhaka, May 8: At least 30 ruling party Awami League (AL) activists were injured in a fierce clash among the supporters of three groups in the city’s Mirpur-1 over holding an anti-hartal procession. Of them, 16 received bullet injury and admitted them hospital for treatment.
The clash took place around 12:30pm near Sony cinema hall on Sunday.
At one stage, the supporters opened fire at each other that left 16 people bullet wounded.
Later, the injured were taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Additional police forces are also deployed around the DMCH to avoid further clash.
“Police forces were deployed to bring situation under control. Police used two tear shells to bring the situation under control. There were long been confrontations to establish supremacy among the groups,” deputy commissioner of Mirpur zone Masud Ahmed said.
Mirpur police officer-in-charge Bhuiyan Mahbub Hossain said that additional police force have been deployed in the area to avoid further clash.
