11 dead in two separate road accidents in Gaibandha


Gaibandha, Mar 10: Eleven people were killed in separate road accidents in Palashbari upazila of Gaibandha on Saturday.A head-on-collision took place between a Gaibandha-bound human hauler and a Bogra-bound bus in the South Bus-stand area of Palashbari Upazila on Dhaka-Rangpur highway around 9am. Seven people including a woman were killed and ten others injured in the incident, said Officer in charge (OC) of Palashbari Police Station Mahmudul Alam.

The deceased are: Raju, Zakir and Khasru of Rudronagar Village of Gobindaganj Upazila of the district. All of them were mason labour.

Apart from, four people were killed and 7 to 8 others injured when a truck carrying them overturned at Jundoho area in the upazila around 12am. They all were the workers.

Identities of them could not be known immediately.

Md. Tofazzol Hossain, Upazila Nirbahi Officer, confirmed the matter to media.

Four people were also killed in a separate road accident in Palashbari’s Niniyagaria area, police said.

Twelve others were injured as a bus rammed into a passenger vehicle, killing three people identified as construction workers Zakir Hossain, 25, Khasru Mia, 55 and Raju Mia, 28.

Four of the wounded were rushed to Bogra’s Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital while the rest were admitted to the Palashbari Upazila Health Complex.

The Bogra-bound bus hit punctured a tire near the Sarkar Petrol Station, causing it to veer out of control and hit the other vehicle, said Inspector Abul Basar of Gobindaganj Highway Police.

The three construction workers died on the spot, he said. The fourth died later on.
